British cycling star Simon Yates has announced his immediate retirement, shocking the sport.
The 33-year-old winner of last year's Giro d'Italia said "now feels the right moment" to end his 13-year professional career.
Yates stated he is stepping away with "deep pride and a sense of peace." His career included victories in two Grand Tours, 11 elite stages, and 36 professional races.
He rode for the Visma-Lease a Bike team at the time of his retirement.
