The board of Warner Bros. Discovery has formally rejected a renewed merger proposal from Paramount Global. The decision ends months of speculation about a potential deal between the two major Hollywood studios.
In a statement, the board cited its recent agreement with Netflix as a key reason. Last month, Warner Bros. struck a major deal to license certain popular TV shows to the streaming giant.
The board concluded that the Netflix partnership carries "less risk" than a full merger with Paramount. A merger would have combined massive debts and complicated integration of their studios and streaming services.
This choice signals a strategic shift for Warner Bros. Instead of seeking growth through a mega-merger, the company will now focus on partnerships and reducing its own substantial debt load. The move leaves Paramount to explore other options for its future.
