UK political figure Nigel Farage has called for a major NATO military base in northern Greenland. He cited "genuine security concerns" made more urgent by melting ice caps.
Farage said the idea is supported by "British intelligence circles" and others within NATO. However, he acknowledged that Greenland itself appears "not particularly keen" on hosting such a base.
His comments come amid renewed U.S. interest in Greenland. Farage criticized any potential U.S. seizure of the territory from Denmark as "outrageous," agreeing that its future must be decided by Greenland and Denmark.
He sided with U.S. interests on security, arguing the changing Arctic environment requires a greater military presence.
