Turkish Women's Group: Iran Detaining Female Protesters

A leading Kurdish women's rights organization has accused Iranian authorities of arbitrarily detaining female protesters. The Free Women's Movement (TJA) stated that at least 40 women have been taken into custody for participating in recent demonstrations in Iran. The group warned that arbitrary detentions are becoming widespread. In its declaration, the TJA called on Iran to address demands for freedom through a framework of rights, not suppression. The statement implies that the government's response to the protests has been excessively forceful. The protests in Iran, often led by women, began months ago following the death of Mahsa Amini in morality police custody.
