NGO Worker Freed After 20 Months in Tunisian Prison
A Tunisian court has released Sherifa Riahi, a former director of the French aid group Terre d’Asile. She was freed on Tuesday after more than 20 months in detention. Riahi was reunited with her family following the court's decision. Two of her colleagues from the non-governmental organization (NGO) were also released. The three were arrested in early 2023. Tunisian authorities have not publicly detailed the charges. The case had drawn attention from international human rights observers. Terre d’Asile provides support to refugees and migrants. Its operations in Tunisia have now ended.
