China's newest aircraft carrier, the Fujian, has finished its first training exercise and returned to port. State media announced the mission's completion on Tuesday.
The official broadcaster CCTV reported this was the warship's "first maritime live-force training." This exercise was the Fujian's initial drill since the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy officially received the ship on November 5.
The Fujian is the world's largest conventionally powered aircraft carrier. It is also China's first domestically designed carrier and the country's third overall. The vessel conducted the training with its accompanying strike group of support ships.
The announcement comes during a period of increased regional tensions.
