U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that "many" of the fighters killed during a recent raid in Venezuela were Cuban. The operation, which involved a private security force, aimed to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
In a radio interview, Trump stated the raiders were "mostly Cubans" and that "a lot of people died." He did not provide evidence for his claim. Venezuelan authorities reported eight attackers killed and several arrested when the raid was stopped.
The incident has drawn international attention. Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has urged the United States to ensure Maduro receives a fair trial if he is ever brought to court. The U.S. government has denied any direct involvement in the failed operation.
