Greenland's leader has publicly thanked European nations for their support following renewed interest in the island by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede made the statement after Trump reportedly discussed the idea of the United States purchasing Greenland again. While not addressing Trump directly, Egede emphasized the importance of "respectful dialogue" with Washington.
The Danish territory, which is largely self-governing, has consistently rejected the idea of being sold. The prime minister's comments highlight Greenland's alignment with its European partners amid these recurring claims.
This situation revives a diplomatic dispute from 2019, when Trump's earlier interest in buying the island was called "absurd" by Greenland's government.
