US chip giant Nvidia has partnered with Hesai Group, a Shanghai-based company, to develop its autonomous driving platform. Hesai is the world's largest manufacturer of vehicle lidar sensors.
The deal will see Hesai supply its lidar sensors to Nvidia's Drive Hyperion platform. Lidar uses laser beams to measure the distance to objects. This technology is a critical component for advanced self-driving systems.
Nvidia's Hyperion platform is designed for Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving. At this level, a vehicle can operate without human intervention in most conditions.
The partnership marks a significant step in Hesai's global expansion. The company aims to supply more international automotive brands. For Nvidia, the collaboration integrates a leading sensor provider into its self-driving ecosystem.
