CAR President Touadera Wins Third Term Amid Opposition Boycott

President Faustin Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic (CAR) has won a third term in office. The country's constitutional court confirmed his victory on Tuesday. The main opposition coalition refused to participate in the election. They cited a lack of transparency and accused the government of planning to rig the vote. Touadera is a key partner for Russia in Africa. Russian security forces have been present in CAR since 2018. They helped the government fight rebel groups that control large parts of the country. The election took place despite ongoing violence in many regions. Observers reported low voter turnout in areas outside the capital, Bangui.
