Jury selection started Monday in a landmark criminal trial. A former Uvalde school police officer faces charges for his actions during the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting.
The officer is accused of failing to protect children during the attack. Nineteen students and two teachers were killed in the Texas tragedy.
This is the first criminal case to go to trial against any of the hundreds of officers who responded that day. A state report found that police waited over an hour to confront the gunman.
The trial will examine whether the former officer’s inaction broke the law. It places the official police response under legal scrutiny.
