Waymo, the self-driving car company, has launched a new service in Los Angeles. It now allows teenagers to ride alone in its robotaxis.
The service, called "Waymo One," is open to riders aged 13 to 17. They can travel without an adult present. A parent or guardian must first set up an account and give permission.
The company says the change meets a clear need. Family schedules are often complicated. This service lets teens get to school, sports, or other activities independently.
For safety, the cars are monitored remotely. Parents can track the trip in real-time. The vehicles also have a "support button" for riders to contact an advisor.
Waymo already offers a similar service in Phoenix. Its expansion to Los Angeles marks a major step. It moves autonomous vehicles further into mainstream family life.
