Russia has accused the United States of "armed aggression" against Venezuela. The sharp condemnation came during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Thursday.
Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia stated, "There is no, and can be no justification for the crime cynically perpetrated by the United States in Caracas." He did not provide specific details of the alleged action.
The U.S. mission to the United Nations has not yet publicly responded to the accusation. Tensions between Washington and Caracas have been high for years.
The U.S. does not recognize the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. It has imposed strict economic sanctions on the country.
