Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has pleaded not guilty in a New York City court. He faces charges of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking conspiracy brought by the United States.
The court appearance follows a military operation by U.S. forces. That operation captured Maduro after entering Venezuelan airspace.
The United Nations Security Council is now meeting in an emergency session. The session was called to address the U.S. incursion into Venezuela and the arrest of its head of state.
Maduro remains in U.S. custody pending further legal proceedings. The case accuses him of conspiring to flood the U.S. with cocaine.
