A legally required plaque honoring police who defended the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, is missing. The fifth anniversary of the attack is approaching, but the tribute is not on display.
A law passed by Congress mandates the plaque be placed in the Capitol. It has not been unveiled. Officials believe it is currently in storage.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, has not scheduled a ceremony to install it. This delay coincides with a legal challenge from the Justice Department.
The department, under the previous administration, is now seeking to dismiss a lawsuit from injured police officers. The officers are suing former President Donald Trump over the riot.
The location of the plaque and the reason for the delay remain unclear.
