German authorities are investigating 250 people suspected of sharing child sexual abuse material. The nationwide probe followed the discovery of large-scale illegal content circulation on online messaging groups.
Prosecutors say the suspects are part of groups that distributed images and videos. The illegal material involved more than 1,500 minor victims.
The investigation, named "Operation Cloud", began in late 2023. It focused on users of a popular messaging service who allegedly exchanged the abusive content.
Authorities have executed search warrants across all 16 German states. The suspects, all German nationals aged 18 to 72, are accused of distributing the material. Further legal action is expected.
Police urge anyone with relevant information to contact authorities. They also recommend using official platforms to report suspected child abuse content online.
