Ancient Armenian Christmas Rite Held in War-Damaged Syrian Church

For the first time since the war, the historic Lady of Damascus Church in Syria held a Christmas service. The ceremony followed the ancient traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The church, also called *Surp Sarkis*, was badly damaged during the Syrian conflict. Its recent restoration made this event possible. Attendees celebrated Armenian Christmas, which is observed on January 6. The service featured the "Blessing of Water" ceremony. This rite commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ.
