A former senior U.S. Army commander warns that Donald Trump's push to politicize the military could cause severe, long-term damage.
Retired Major General Paul Eaton said efforts by Trump and his defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, to force the military's top ranks to obey the president's political will are extreme. He compared the push to the methods of the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
Eaton, who once led training for the Iraq invasion, said this situation is unique in recent American history. He warned that both the reputation and the effectiveness of the U.S. armed forces are now at risk.
The general stated that repairing the damage from such political interference could take many years.
