A Paris court has convicted 10 people for the online harassment of France's first lady, Brigitte Macron. They were found guilty of posting or sharing malicious social media comments.
The false claims alleged that Brigitte Macron was a man. Her daughter previously told the court these lies damaged her mother's quality of life.
The eight men and two women convicted are aged 41 to 60. Their professions include a school sports teacher, an art gallery owner, and a publicist.
Sentences were issued on Monday. They range from mandatory courses on online harassment to eight-month suspended prison terms.
One man, a property developer, did not attend the trial. He received a six-month prison sentence.
