Charges Dropped Against 93-Year-Old Surgeon in Fatal Botox Case
Hong Kong has dropped all criminal charges against a 93-year-old plastic surgeon linked to a fatal botox injection. Prosecutors cited a prior court ruling that found Dr. Franklin Li Wang-pong unfit for trial due to dementia. The case stems from the 2018 death of a prominent banker following a procedure at Li's clinic. Last year, the High Court released him unconditionally from an unlawful killing charge for the same reason. Authorities have now also abandoned 21 additional charges. These included allegations that Li misled police and failed to keep a mandatory register of dangerous drugs at his practice. The decision formally ends the legal proceedings against the elderly doctor. No further court dates are scheduled.
