At least 50 people are dead after gunmen attacked a market in Nigeria's Niger state. Many others were wounded in the violence.
The attackers also took an unknown number of hostages. They fled the scene before security forces arrived.
Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has condemned the attack. He says he has ordered security officials to find the gunmen and rescue the hostages.
Local officials blame armed groups, often called "bandits," for the violence. These groups are known for kidnappings and attacks in northwest and central Nigeria.
The region faces a severe security crisis. Repeated attacks have devastated communities.
