Former U.S. President Donald Trump declared the United States is "in charge" of Venezuela. He made the statement while facing questions about the recent seizure of the country's deposed leader, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.
Reporters repeatedly asked if the operation's goal was to secure Venezuelan oil or to force a change in leadership. Trump rejected both suggestions.
"It's about peace on Earth," he said on Sunday.
The captured former president is scheduled to appear in a New York courtroom on Monday. Maduro faces multiple criminal charges in the United States.
