U.S. airlines resumed flights to and from the Caribbean on Sunday. This followed a one-day closure of a major air travel route.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) closed the airspace over much of the Caribbean on Saturday. The decision was a direct response to a surprise American military attack on Venezuela.
The sudden closure stranded an unknown number of U.S. citizens at airports across the region. Many were trying to return home from holiday travel.
While flights have now restarted, airlines are working to clear the backlog. Reports indicate that many travelers are still waiting for a seat on a plane home.
The FAA has not stated how long it will take for normal flight schedules to fully resume.
