Hong Kong will host Interpol's major annual meeting for the first time this November. The city's police force says it will use the event to build stronger law enforcement links with Southeast Asia.
Police Commissioner Joe Chow Yat-ming pledged to increase collaboration with ASEAN countries. He said Hong Kong police aim to be a "superconnector" in international policing.
A superconnector is an intermediary that links different networks. Chow believes Hong Kong's high international standing can help foster these ties. He previously worked at Interpol's headquarters in Lyon, France.
The announcement comes as the city prepares for the Interpol meeting. The gathering will bring together senior law enforcement officials from around the world.
Commissioner Chow stated that Hong Kong's role as a global hub remains unchanged. The force hopes enhanced cooperation will help combat transnational crime.
