Norway is significantly strengthening its northern border guard. It plans to double the size of its Border Control Brigade and is coordinating closely with neighbors Sweden and Finland.
This move is a direct response to what officials call "hybrid threats" from Russia. These are actions that are not open warfare but aim to create instability.
Recently, Norwegian authorities have reported suspicious activity. This includes groups of Russians entering as tourists in border areas where tourism is unusual. There have also been Russian fishing boats appearing near sensitive offshore infrastructure.
The expanded brigade will increase patrols on land and at sea. Its goal is to better monitor all border activity and prevent potential espionage or sabotage.
With Sweden and Finland now in NATO, the three countries are working together to secure the entire northern flank of the alliance.
