NYC Commute Just Got Pricier: Subway Fare Hits $3

Starting Sunday, a ride on the New York City subway or bus will cost $3. This is a 15-cent increase from the current fare.
The change is part of a wider rise in transit costs. Fares are also increasing for the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad commuter lines.
Tolls are going up, too. Drivers will pay more at several major bridges and tunnels operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA says the increases are necessary to fund essential service and improvements.
The basic single-ride subway and bus fare was last raised in 2015.
