Mourners are gathering at a makeshift memorial in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. They are lighting candles and leaving flowers for the victims of a deadly fire.
The fire tore through a popular bar on New Year's Eve. The bar was crowded with young people celebrating. At least 40 people died.
The close-knit resort community says it is crushed by the tragedy. But residents are supporting each other.
“We came to light a candle,” said Sisi Boisard, a regular visitor from France. “We have five children and can’t begin to imagine what these families are going through."
She added, "This is a tragedy that has cut profoundly, but not just here – it’s being felt across the world.”
Police continue to identify the victims. The community's grief is deep, but its spirit remains strong.
