A suspected arson attack on critical power cables has left tens of thousands in Berlin without electricity, with repairs expected to last until Thursday.
The outage, which began early Saturday, affects homes and businesses. It has also disrupted local heating systems as snow blankets the city and temperatures near freezing.
Officials say several high-voltage cables on a bridge near a power plant were seriously damaged. Emergency crews are working on repairs, but the complexity of the damage means the blackout will continue for days.
