The creators of Netflix's "Stranger Things" have defended a pivotal scene from the show's final season. They responded after the episode was targeted by negative online reviews.
The scene shows the character Will Byers having an emotional conversation about his sexuality. This is often called a "coming-out" moment. Some fans criticized the scene online in large numbers, a practice known as "review-bombing."
Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer stated the character's moment was essential to the plot. They explained that Will's emotional honesty was a direct weapon against the show's supernatural villain, Vecna.
The Duffers said Vecna preys on shame and secrets. Therefore, Will's courage in facing his truth helped weaken the villain's power. They framed the scene not just as personal growth, but as a key strategic move for the characters.
