Powerful Quake Rattles Mexico City and Acapulco

A strong earthquake struck near the Mexican beach resort of Acapulco on Friday morning, shaking buildings hundreds of miles away in the capital. The tremor killed at least one person and injured a dozen more.
The 6.5-magnitude quake hit just before 8 a.m. local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Its effects were felt strongly in Acapulco and as far north as Mexico City, roughly 400 kilometers (250 miles) away.
In the capital, seismic alarms sounded, sending residents and visitors rushing into the streets for safety. The event disrupted the start of a holiday weekend.
A 60-year-old man died from injuries sustained during the quake. Authorities reported at least 12 other people were injured. Despite the strong shaking, officials confirmed no major structural damage occurred.
