Three African Crises Top Global "Wars to Watch" List

A leading conflict research group warns that three African crises are among the world's ten most critical to monitor in 2026. The International Crisis Group (ICG), a Brussels-based think tank, published its annual watchlist. It highlights conflicts expected to continue following a violent 2025. The listed African crises are the civil war in Sudan, the jihadist insurgencies in Mali and Burkina Faso, and rising tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The ICG's analysis stresses the severe instability in Mali and Burkina Faso. There, Islamist militant groups fight state forces and local militias. This prolonged conflict weakens both governments, raising risks of further collapse and regional chaos. The group urges international attention on these conflicts in the coming year.
