Iain Ballamy, a leading UK saxophonist of the 1980s, has released his first solo album in years. "Riversphere Vol 1" is out now on Babel Label.
The album features an A-list quartet. It also includes a shared trumpet role played by modern star Laura Jurd and Ballamy's own son, Charlie.
Ballamy first emerged in the mid-1980s. He was known for skillfully respecting classic jazz while also transforming it. He and pianist Django Bates were key members of Loose Tubes. This revolutionary orchestra mixed genres like swing, improv, and rock.
The new album's cross-generational lineup shows why Ballamy has remained influential for 40 years. "Riversphere" presents captivating musical ideas from a lasting talent.
