Hong Kong's anti-corruption agency has arrested 21 people for allegedly rigging renovation contracts at two housing estates. The syndicate is accused of having links to organized crime groups, known as triads.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) detained 15 men and six women last week. Their ages range from 30 to 81. The agency said the group includes suspected core members of the corruption ring.
The alleged scheme manipulated tender processes for renovation projects in Kwun Tong. One of the rigged contracts was worth approximately HK$33 million (US$4.2 million).
The ICAC announced the arrests on Friday, calling it a crackdown on a "triad-linked syndicate." Investigations are ongoing.
