Nigerian billionaire investor Femi Otedola has publicly praised the country's economic leadership. His comments followed the successful completion of a major capital raise by First Bank of Nigeria.
Otedola credited President Bola Tinubu with having a "deep understanding" of the economy. He also made a strong statement about Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso.
"Yemi Cardoso is the best CBN Governor ever," Otedola said.
The praise came after First Bank, one of Nigeria's oldest financial institutions, raised 500 billion naira. This capital increase is a key part of meeting new central bank requirements for banks.
All Nigerian banks must now hold more capital to strengthen the country's financial system. First Bank's successful raise is seen as a significant early step in this process.
Otedola is a major shareholder in First Bank's parent company, FBN Holdings. His endorsement highlights business sector support for the government's current economic strategy.
