Turkish Ultimatum: "Time's Up" for Syrian Kurdish Forces, Says Lawmaker

A Turkish lawmaker has declared that the period given to a key Syrian Kurdish militia "has expired." Feti Yıldız, a member of parliament from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), made the statement on the social media platform X. His message directly concerned the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG). The SDG is the main military force in northeast Syria. Turkey considers its leading faction, the YPG, to be a terrorist organization linked to Kurdish insurgents in Turkey. Yıldız's brief declaration did not specify what consequences might follow. The statement reflects ongoing Turkish government pressure on the group, which is a crucial U.S. ally in the fight against ISIS.
