Colombian President Gustavo Petro has called for a high-level security meeting with the United States, China, and other regional partners. He argues that recent US military actions are increasing regional tensions.
The US operations include military deployments and strikes on boats suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. President Petro joined other regional leaders in condemning these actions.
He stressed that foreign powers must treat Latin America and the Caribbean with respect. President Petro repeated his earlier proposal to hold the multinational talks in Pearl Harbor.
