A Black Republican congressman has called for the permanent elimination of all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the United States.
U.S. Representative Wesley Hunt of Texas said the ideology behind DEI should be "abolished fully and completely." He argued that such initiatives, often used in workplaces and education, prioritize identity over individual achievement.
"I want to earn every opportunity on merit," Hunt stated.
His position puts him at odds with many advocates who say DEI efforts are necessary to ensure fair access for historically marginalized groups. DEI programs aim to promote diversity in hiring and create more inclusive environments.
As a Black conservative, Hunt's direct criticism adds a prominent voice to a growing national debate. The future of DEI policies has become a major political issue.
