Zohran Mamdani is now the mayor of New York City. His swearing-in marks several historic firsts for the city's government.
At 34 years old, Mamdani is the youngest person to hold the office. He is also New York City's first Muslim mayor. Additionally, he is the first mayor of Asian descent and the first to be born in Africa.
Mamdani was born in Uganda. He represents a significant shift in the leadership of one of the world's most famous cities.
