Syria has launched a new national strategy to protect its cultural heritage. The plan covers the years 2025 to 2035.
The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums announced the framework on Thursday. Officials call Syria's ancient sites and artifacts a "national and human treasure."
The strategy has two main goals. The first is to safeguard heritage from further damage. The second is to use it for sustainable development.
Syria's rich cultural history has suffered greatly during more than a decade of conflict. Major sites like Palmyra and Aleppo's old city were heavily damaged.
The new 10-year plan aims to manage, protect, and restore this heritage. The government says it will use the strategy to guide all future work.
