African Journalists Unite: Demanding Clearer Climate Reporting

African journalists have agreed on urgent new priorities for the continent's media. Their goal is to improve coverage of climate change and stop the spread of false information. The agreement happened at a regional workshop organized by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). It was held from December 18 to 20, 2025. A major focus was the "just transition." This idea means shifting to a green economy in a fair way. Journalists examined how climate change is already damaging jobs, food supplies, and public health across Africa. They concluded these impacts must become central to news reporting. The group warned that unclear journalism has serious consequences. When media fails to explain climate policies, public accountability suffers. Citizen participation drops and misinformation increases. The workshop also set a shared continental goal for "information integrity." This means fighting false news and ensuring the public can trust the information it receives.
