Trump Wins Court Fight to Cut Planned Parenthood Funds

A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of former President Donald Trump’s administration. The decision allows a budget rule to be enforced that cuts Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood clinics. The ruling applies to 22 states led by Democratic governors. These states had sued to block the rule. The provision prevents clinics from receiving federal Medicaid money if they provide or refer patients for abortions. Medicaid is a government health insurance program for people with low incomes. Planned Parenthood argues this denies patients access to other vital health services it provides. These include cancer screenings and contraception. The court's decision reverses a previous nationwide order that had stopped the rule. The case may now be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
