President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked Croatia and Romania for joining a key Western initiative to finance weapons for Ukraine. Their participation boosts a fund that has now reached $4.3 billion.
The mechanism, called the PURL (Procurement of Ukraine Resources Led by Allies) initiative, allows allied nations to pool money. This collective fund is then used to purchase American military equipment for Ukraine's armed forces.
"Total contributions have reached $4.3 billion," Zelenskyy stated. This sum, he said, makes "it possible to purchase American weapons and bolster our defense."
The PURL program is designed to streamline and accelerate the delivery of vital arms to the front lines. By contributing financially, more nations can support Ukraine's military needs without directly transferring their own weapon stockpiles.
