A powerful winter storm has transformed the northern Syrian city of al-Bab into a rare winter landscape. Heavy snowfall, described by residents as unprecedented, covered streets and buildings.
The storm caused significant disruption. It halted most traffic, grounded flights at nearby airports, and forced the closure of schools and government offices. The extreme weather also threatens to postpone a major football match scheduled for this weekend.
Local authorities have declared a state of alert. Emergency services are working to clear roads and restore electricity to affected areas. Civilians are advised to stay indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Meteorologists link the severe conditions to a sudden and intense drop in atmospheric pressure. They predict the storm will continue for at least another 24 hours.
