University students across Iran held street protests on Tuesday. This follows demonstrations by shopkeepers in Tehran the day before, who were protesting severe economic hardship.
The student protests occurred at at least 10 universities, according to the ILNA news agency. ILNA is linked to Iran's labour movement. Seven of the protests were in Tehran, involving some of the country's top schools. Further protests were reported at a technology university in Isfahan and other cities.
These actions come after President Ebrahim Raisi publicly acknowledged the shopkeepers' complaints on Monday. He stated he understood their economic problems. The protests highlight growing public discontent over Iran's struggling economy.
