Junta leader General Mamady Doumbouya has won Guinea's presidential election, according to preliminary results. The vote was the country's first since Doumbouya seized power in a 2021 military coup.
The national election authority announced late Tuesday that Doumbouya received 86.72 percent of votes counted from Sunday's election. Analysts had predicted his victory, noting the opposition was weakened.
The election is widely seen as an effort to legitimize Doumbouya's rule. He led the coup that ousted former President Alpha Condé.
International observers and the opposition have not yet commented on the reported results. The final tally is still pending.
