France Bans "Forever Chemicals" in Makeup and Clothing

A new French law banning PFAS in cosmetics and clothing takes effect Thursday. PFAS are often called "forever chemicals" because they do not break down naturally. The ban covers the production and sale of these items if they contain PFAS. The chemicals are common in waterproof clothing, non-stick cosmetics, and other products. Authorities must now also test drinking water regularly for all types of PFAS. These substances are linked to serious health risks, including cancer. France is one of the first countries to enact such a broad consumer ban. The move increases pressure on the European Union to pass a wider PFAS restriction.
