Denmark's national postal service has delivered its final letter. This ends a continuous 400-year history of letter delivery that began in 1624.
The state-owned operator, PostNord, made the decision due to a dramatic decline in mail. Over the last 25 years, the volume of letters sent in Denmark has fallen by 90%.
The company will now focus entirely on package delivery, adapting to the digital age where most communication happens online.
In a separate financial update, France announced plans to issue €310 billion in new government bonds next year. Analysts note this large borrowing will complicate the country's goal of reducing its national debt, which currently exceeds 117% of its total economic output.
