A sharp rise in flu cases has spread across the United States following the holiday season. The number of states reporting high levels of flu activity has more than doubled in a short period.
Previously, only 14 states reported high or very high activity. New data shows that number has jumped to 29 states.
Medical experts, including Dr. Jon LaPook, are monitoring the situation. They note that holiday gatherings and travel likely contributed to the rapid spread of the virus.
Health officials urge the public to take precautions. These include getting a flu shot, washing hands frequently, and staying home when sick.
