Syrian authorities have imposed a strict 13-hour curfew in the port city of Latakia following sectarian violence. Officials also announced the arrest of 21 individuals from the Alawite community.
The city is a stronghold for Syria's Alawite minority. Former President Bashar al-Assad is a member of this same religious group.
The measures are a direct response to recent unrest. The curfew is intended to restore order and prevent further clashes.
