Venezuela Backs China, Calls US Taiwan Arms Sale "Illegal"

Venezuela has strongly criticized the United States for approving a major new weapons sale to Taiwan. In a statement on Monday, Venezuela's foreign ministry said the sale "constitutes a serious interference in China's internal affairs." It accused Washington of breaking its international commitments. The South American nation reiterated its firm support for the "One-China" principle. This policy states that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory. The move aligns Venezuela directly with Beijing's position. China claims self-ruled Taiwan as its own territory and opposes all foreign military contact with the island. The US State Department approved the $300 million arms deal last week. It includes equipment for Taiwan's tactical information systems.
